I’m currently stuck at the LAX airport. Long story.
Part of the reason I’m here is that I spent the weekend in Denver with my parents. Some perks about this: homemade food, beautiful sunshine, and a bonus: things are generally cheaper in Denver.
Like wedding dresses.
My mom has been not-so-subtly hinting that she would like to go along for a wedding dress shop. So, I tried to call up a few places to make appointments. Not surprisingly, they were swamped. But, during my miraculous 10-minutes-through-security-at-Midway, a place called and said they could squeeze me in at 1pm. Hooray!
My mom doesn’t know too much about wedding dress shopping. She gets a lot of information from two of her friends who get their information from reputable sources, such as The View.
My mom hasn’t ever seen The View, so it makes me laugh when she says, “Michie said she saw the 2010 wedding dress collection on The View. Have you heard of Oscar De La Renta?”
“Yes, Mom. I have. President’s wives wear Oscar De La Renta,” I say pointedly. I make a mental note not to go to any boutiques that carry Oscar De La Renta.
See, that was the first mistake I made about a month ago. J and I were getting ski clothes, and next door to REI was a Pricilla’s of Boston, a wedding dress shop I had heard about. We went in to “take a look” and to my chagrin, were confronted with dresses that ranged from2 to 10k, and averaged around 4.
We quickly left. 4k on one dress?! Again, mental note. Go to places you can afford!
So enough chatter, you say. Where are the dresses? (cut for groom!)
First, a disclaimer. I do have pictures of me in these dresses, but I’d rather not post them on my blog. If you are just *dying* to see, drop me an email.
First we have this dress by Elizabeth Darcy. (P&P reference anyone?) It’s some sort of silk blend and lovely. There are some fabric rose like thing with feathers on the bottom in a few places. The soft ruching on the top is one part I love. Also, if you know me, I can rock an hourglass kinda shape. I love the asymmetry and the draping. It was really comfortable too!
Second, I do not have a good picture of this dress. This might be because it’s a small exclusive line.
This Kathryn Elizabeth dress is similar to the first in that it is a silk blend and has similar soft ruching. But, unlike the other dress, is fitted all the way to the thigh and then has an asymmetrical sweep before the bottom blossoms into a billow of fabric. There is also a giant fabric rose on one side.
These two were my favorites by far. But, I also had some other dresses that I liked which I am including for your viewing pleasure. They are all by the Spanish line, Pronovias.
While I liked the style of Pronovias, the fabric was polyester and heavy. And starchy. (But, also cheaper)…
That first dress is soooooo cute! And I wanna see pics of you in it! =D
I like the fluffy Spanish ones quite a bit, but that second one is lovely.
I like the 2nd and the last ones! But yes, pix of you IN the dresses would help. 🙂
If you are sending pics out- I would love to see some 🙂
Pretty! I really like #1 and #3 on looks alone. But you have to be comfortable.
Oooh, I am so glad you decided to try the mermaid shapes! I like the first one a lot.
love the 2nd one!
I LOVE Pronovias dresses! 🙂
